To Do, Doing, Done

After a 3-month hiatus, I’ve been easing back into work over the past couple of weeks. It feels good to return, and to gradually get the engine running again.
There’s quite a bit waiting in the backlog, but I’m grateful for the recordings, summaries and documentation from before the break. They’ve made it much easier to pick up where I left off and shape a revised plan.
David Allen, in his Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology, talks about three kinds of work:
☑️ Predefined work – tasks we’ve already identified and planned.
☑️ Work as it shows up – the unexpected things that land on our plates.
☑️ Defining your work – taking time to step back, review, and decide what needs doing.
Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in that third category: defining the work. Listing “to-do’s,” prioritizing, and getting clarity.
Now I’m looking forward to shifting more into doing.
