Realize Mortality: You Only Live Twice

    ByHasannudin Saidin September 6, 2025November 11, 2025

    YES, I START (THIS NEWSLETTER)

I struggled to publish this edition #1 (yay!) of The Faith-Conscious Leader newsletter, intended to be launched on the 1st Tuesday of this month. Today is already Saturday. Better late than never, so here goes. 😌

After partially drafting edition #1 on Tuesday, my next 3 days were sad days of two deaths of loved ones: my brother-in-law, Zainuddin Zaini (Abang Din) and my cousin Faizal Sohaimi‘s wife, Emily Cheong.

The common epitaph I heard from most people at the two funerals was a simple phrase. “Abang Din was a good person.” “Emily was a good person.” Masha Allah, that to me is a pinnacle of having lived: to be remembered as a “good person”! Within that phrase lies layers upon layers of virtues, achievements and impact to others and impact to the world, unique to who says it.

I can’t go back to finishing the original draft of the newsletter edition (will keep it for a later edition). I feel compelled to write anew, on living this life in this world, dying, and then living again the second time in the hereafter.

In Batu Pahat, our trip for a wedding reception also brought us to the sea. To Perpat Beach, or Pantai Raja Sehari, a favourite destination for newlyweds to capture their wedding photographs.

“Stumped” – When Life Feels Like a Gordian Knot

    ByHasannudin Saidin August 17, 2025October 27, 2025

In leadership and in life, there are moments when challenges seem impossible to untangle.

    • A team member’s struggles quietly erode group morale.

    • Family dynamics become clouded with illness, anxiety, or depression.

    • Uncertainty about the future: waiting on client’s orders, jobs, or medical tests—stretches our patience thin.

    • Even in our own homes, we sometimes care deeply yet feel unable to connect.

The weight of uncertainty can be crushing, and we may conclude: “I’m stumped.”

Come Back Stronger: Lessons Beyond Physical Recovery

    ByHasannudin Saidin August 16, 2025October 27, 2025

In leadership, we often speak of strength. But what kind of strength sustains us through crisis and brings us back not just intact, but evolved?

After undergoing triple bypass surgery earlier this year, I was told: “You’ll come back stronger.” I initially assumed it meant physical resilience. But I’ve since discovered: the strength that truly transformed me was not physical. It was spiritual, emotional, relational, and purposeful.

Song To The Siren – A Yearning for the Transcendent

Across the years, the siren still calls.

The sound of the siren rises through the tides of my life. Sometimes gentle, sometimes urgent, drawing me toward a shore I have yet to reach.

For some, the siren is danger. For me, it is my calling. Not fixed, but ever-evolving, always horizoning my future.

This is how I have come to hear Tim Buckley’s Song to the Siren, as the soundtrack of my own voyage.

👇🏻Listen to the song and read my reflection below.

The Pull of the Sea: Perspective, Pause, and Connection

    ByHasannudin Saidin August 11, 2025October 27, 2025

There’s something about the sea that resets our perspective.

Over the weekend, after a meaningful family visit in Lukut with my wife Marsila’s eldest living brother, we took a short detour to Port Dickson. The coast wasn’t just a scenic side trip,  it was a reminder of how important it is to pause, reflect, and reconnect, both with people and with ourselves.

From above, through the lens of my drone, the Port Dickson shoreline unfolded in all its wonder. Over coffee by the water, we found ourselves among super bikers and Mini owners — strangers, yet united by the same draw to the sea.

In leadership, as in life, these moments matter. They remind us that while objectives, deadlines, and strategies are vital, so too is the art of slowing down to appreciate where we are and who we’re with.

Elevation and Perspective: A Moment of Stillness Above the City

    ByHasannudin Saidin August 4, 2025October 27, 2025

We often think we need to escape the city to find peace.

But what if stillness could be found just a few floors above?

In this short video I captured, I found myself surrounded by nature, light, and a deep sense of perspective, all while staying within the city.

It reminded me that the shift we seek isn’t always geographic. Sometimes, it’s internal. Sometimes, it’s just about lifting our gaze.

Masha Allah. The Creator’s signs are everywhere, if we elevate enough to see them.

Post-Surgery Leadership Reflection: Why I Chose Not to Retire

    ByHasannudin Saidin July 19, 2025October 28, 2025

After undergoing a major heart surgery (I dodged a bullet), many would expect the next chapter to be about stepping back from work.

I did, too, although briefly: only for four months to be functional for work again.

But clarity came. And with it, intention.
